Guest lecture: Teaching Methods and Research Methods

March 10, 2023

On March 7, 2023, the Ala-Too International University hosted a guest lecture on “Teaching methods and Research Methods” from Professor Jyotika Ramaprasad from India for AIU lecturers.

Jyotika Ramaprasad is a professor at the University of Miami School of Communication. Her teaching covers communication for social change, civic engagement, intercultural communication, research methods, journalism theory and ethics, media literacy and much more.

The professor shared her experiences of teaching students, critical thinking and what students want in the learning environment. She also noted the importance of critical pedagogy on the example of Paulo Freire, because he was against lectures, called for abandoning the usual subordination in the classroom and believed that properly organized education could make students free.

Jyotika Ramaprasad stressed that the teacher should be offered an education, the focus of which is a joint search for a solution to a complex social problem, and not ready-made knowledge. She believes that a teacher should ask students a question, a topic, and continue with them, in horizontal discussion and cooperation, to find answers and create new ideas.

We thank Professor Jyotika Ramaprasad for an interesting lecture!
